Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

As much as it pained her to admit it, Fabrizia's job was not always crawling through mud to see something amazing. She also, sometimes, had to sit down and work with the generally incompetent masses to get her goals done. Today was one of those days for the blue haired scientist. While she had been able to uncover some very interesting information on pokemon behaviors in this region, she hadn't been able to work on any of her own research. It was frustrating, but that meant calling in some help. Which was exactly what she had done.
Leasing a space from the HQ Lab had been easy. It seemed to just be filled with lazy people who had abandoned the name of science for naps and donuts. She felt like working with anyone here was below her, honestly. Perhaps if she was lucky someone who still had a spark for discovery would come by. Either way, she had called out a bulletin for anyone in the nearby town to make a visit today if they had pokemon. She wanted to see if the pokemon native here were any different, have a discussion with Trainers about where they captured and how. This information was vital. She was also particularly interested in pokemon that had evolved at least once, didn't evolve at all, or needed a stone or similar item.
Sighing, Fabrizia finished scribbling in her notebook as she shooed away a child Trainer who had just had a Wurmple at their disposal. It hadn't even been native, but a gift from Hoenn from an aunt, and couldn't used in any sort of basis for research. The most she had gained from that was some sticky web on her prim and pressed white lab coat. "Next." She called out smoothly. She waited for whoever might come in, be it scientist or Trainer she didn't know.

Normally, Tristan stayed away from the forest area unless he was meeting up with friends. This wasn't because he disliked the forest or anything – he just thought that the old Kaminko house was extremely creepy and elected to stay away from the entire area because of it, with the exceptions of Agate Village and Gateon Port. Today, though, he was here because of a bulletin that went out. Some local researcher was curious about pokemon who were native to the Orre region. If it hadn't been for that bulletin, Tristan probably would have gone with his original plan of traveling to Eclo Canyon immediately after exploring the SS Libra.
It was too late to go back to the original plan now, though. If he tried, he would be rude...and considering the fact that one of his old college buddies is a researcher, Tristan thought that the least that he could do was pretend to be nice since the one who called out the bulletin was most likely a researcher themselves. Besides...it wasn't like he didn't have pokemon who were native to the region.
Vesta was specifically bred by his parents for him to raise and train – and he had no clue about Kai's origins. However, he did recently capture a magikarp and a squirtle during his exploration of the SS Libra.
He was patiently waiting out in the hall when he heard somebody call out, "Next."
Tristan quickly looked around the hallway and noticed that nobody else was present – other than a few youngsters who probably shouldn't even be training pokemon yet. Upon this realization, Tristan walked in and said, "Hey...I heard about this while I was in Gateon Port. Just out of curiosity, though, what exactly are you trying to do here?"
@fabrizia - 293 words - i hope this works... (btw, i'm pretending that this is before my swarm thread)
Fabrizia tapped the open notebook in front of her as she waited for someone to enter. She was greeted with someone who seemed to be an actually competent trainer, not a child, and was pleased with this. "I'm doing research." It was a short reply for a question she didn't really feel she needed to answer. She was a scientist, after all. It should be obvious what she was doing. Beyond that, what she needed this for or intended to do with it was her business and hers alone unless this fellow somehow proved himself worthy of understanding it. It wasn't rocket science.
"Give me your name, age, and tell me how many pokemon you have and what they are. All I need to know is some simple questions about each one, as well as to examine them." Flipping to a previous page, Fabrizia looked over a few guidelines and nodded to herself before continuing. "My name is Fabrizia Barsetti and I work for the Rowan Institute of Pokemon Research and Evolution in Sinnoh." She sighed softly and clicked her pen some, eager to get started. "By my legal contract, I am required to tell you that this study is about pokemon behavioral patterns. No harm will come to your pokemon from this study, and all findings will be turned into the International League at a later date. If I find any indication of unsafe breeding practices or abuse in your pokemon, you will be turned into the police and your pokemon confiscated. Full legal details are in this document." She slid a piece of paper over to him, as well as a pen for him to sign the document that he understood the mess of legal text. She really hated this part of her job, having to recite some jargon she didn't really care about. Well, she did care about the abuse part, but it got old having to repeat it over and over. In fact, during her recital of it, she had just sounded bored and like she wanted to hurry and get it over with.
Taking a pokeball our of one of her coat pockets, Fabrizia called out Flicker to the scene. The minuscule charmander gave a big yawn, then tried to crawl up in his Trainer's lap. Fab scooped him up and sit him on the table gently, where he looked up at Tristan with wide eyes and sniffed in his direction. "This is Flicker. He has been trained by me to help your pokemon relax in this clinical environment. If you think any of your would fear him or would try to hurt him, let me know now so I can put him away." Flicker pushed himself to his feet and toddled over to Tristan on the table. He held out one tiny clawed hand and let out a little puff of smoke in his direction, clearly interested in the human.

Somehow, "doing research" didn't feel like much of an answer to Tristan. However, despite the fact that every instinct told him to insist on receiving an actual answer, the blond trainer held himself back from questioning the researcher any further. The chances of him actually understanding what she wanted to research were pretty slim anyway – after all, he wasn't the scientist in his group of friends (that was more Al's territory, to be honest). With a fake smile on his face, Tristan responded, "Fair enough."
The scientist, who was apparently named Fabrizia Barsetti (although he could have sworn that he heard her say Febreeze at first), told him to give his name and age alongside some other stuff that he had actually been expecting. The fact that she worked for the Rowan Institute in Sinnoh was impressive, though – at least by his standards, which weren't difficult to surpass since the only other researcher he knows seems to get injured on an almost daily basis. He was snapped out of his thoughts when she gave him a document to sign.
Seeing the document, Tristan mentally sighed in relief. Even if he was incapable of understanding any scientific talk that she might make, he could certainly understand legal documents – one of the benefits of studying law during his college years. After ensuring himself that the document stated everything she said it did, making sure that he didn't miss any of the fine print, Tristan signed the document and began to answer her earlier demands.
"My name is Tristan Grimaldi. I'm twenty-two years old. Right now, I have five pokemon – a vulpix, poliwag, magikarp, lunatone, and squirtle."
As the blond trainer finished speaking, he called out his pokemon so that the researcher could examine them. Seeing the researcher's charmander, Flicker, Tristan grinned and commented, "I wouldn't worry about my buddies trying to hurt him; they know not to attack another person's pokemon unless we're in a battle – except my magikarp, Seiryuu, anyway – but that's mostly because I haven't actually battled with him yet." He paused for a minute before he realized that he might come off as not caring about his magikarp. When he had this realization, he continued to speak, "The only reason I don't battle with him, though, is because all he knows how to do is splash right now. I didn't like the idea of leaving him at home, though, so I bring him everywhere – even if a good amount of people would make fun of me for it."
As he finished his short monologue, Tristan realized that he might have went off on a tangent and immediately set out to do damage control by apologizing, "Sorry for going off on a tangent just now, I don't usually talk that much to strangers."
@fabrizia - 463 words - ignore the fact that the mini profile says he has a charmander for now...
