Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

The S.S. Libra, was it? When Tristan had first moved to the Orre region, he had heard rumors about it...but, at the time, that was all they were. What else could they have been? All the stories that he had heard came from people who rarely set foot outside of Phenac City – so the fact that he believed it was just a myth should not have been surprising.
In all honesty, Tristan would still think that it was a myth if it hadn't been for the fact that he had heard visitors speak of the ship as well. Hearing the locals talk about it was one thing, but hearing about it from people who didn't spend their whole life in Phenac was a different story. It got him curious. What was the big deal about this ship?
Nobody he asked would answer him...and that was when he got the idea that he should check the place out himself. Bringing out his hover bike from the back of his home, Tristan quickly made his way over to where the ship was rumored to be. It was surprising, to say the least. The ship was actually real – not that he had doubted that fact after hearing about it from those who didn't live in Phenac. It was still shocking for him, though, as he had always believed that it was just a story. The idea of a ship being found in the middle of the desert just never made sense to him.
Clearly, Tristan had been wrong. Still, though, Tristan decided that he could at least explore the ship since he was already there anyway.
With his mind made up, Tristan called out his first pokemon to explore alongside him – a vulpix that had named Vesta.

Okay...Tristan knew that he didn't have the best luck in the world – but he had never expected that it would suck so bad that the first pokemon he encountered would be a magikarp. Who the hell wanted a magikarp? Sure, it became an awesome pokemon once it evolved – but it was completely useless until it was at least level 15. A gyrados would be useful in the future, and there was no possible way for anyone to deny that. However, Tristan couldn't help but wonder whether or not the small red fish was worth taking his time to capture.
After a minute or two of silence, Tristan decided that it couldn't hurt to try and catch the magikarp. Even if it would take a while to get the fish pokemon to an appropriate level, he supposed that he could just leave it at home until he had a way of actually training it. In the meantime, the kids back in Phenac would have a new playmate.
Chuckling to himself, Tristan commanded his six-tailed fox, "Vesta, use ember!" Hearing her trainer's command, Vesta opened her mouth and small flames were shot toward the magikarp. Although injured, the fish pokemon kept splashing around – leading Tristan to believe that it probably didn't know any moves other than splash, which he had expected. Confident that his pokemon wouldn't be getting hurt by the small red fish, Tristan called out to the fox pokemon once more, "Use tail whip, and follow up with quick attack!" Both attacks made contact with their target.
Tristan looked at the fish pokemon splashing around and concluded that the pokemon was probably weak enough to capture and tossed an empty pokeball in its direction. He watched the pokeball start to rock back and forth once it encased the magikarp within itself.

Tristan let out a small breath of relief as the pokeball finally settled down. Upon noticing this, Vesta left her position and retrieved the pokeball for her training. While this was happening, though, he heard someone speak to him.
"Hey, I know you're probably just passing through."
As Vesta made her way back to where he was standing, Tristan replied as he pocketed the pokeball containing his new magikarp (which he had decided to name Seiryuu), "Yeah, I am. Why would you care, though?"
The person who had approached him simply chuckled and responded, "I just thought that my pokemon were getting bored – how about a quick battle?"
Tristan rolled his eyes at their statement before he turned around to face them. He glared at the man that was now standing in front of him – with a Zubat flying in front of him – as he rose his voice to answer, "You want a battle, huh? Fine...but it's going to be my pokemon that will be coming out on top."
He slowly stepped back from the man that challenged him and ordered his starter to attack, "Vesta, start this off with ember!" At the sound of her trainer's voice, the vulpix shot out small flames toward the tiny blue bat. After the flames made contact, the zubat attempted to retaliate with astonish. Seeing the attack coming, Tristan quickly ordered his pokemon to dodge the ghost-type attack – however, the small fox pokemon did not succeed in evading the bat-like pokemon. When he noticed this, he commanded his pokemon to continue attacking, "Use tail whip, and follow up with quick attack!" The fox pokemon jumped toward the zubat – hitting it with her tail – and charged at it with enough speed that rendered the defending zubat unable to dodge. As he noticed this, Tristan started to form a strategy in his head and called out to his small fox pokemon, "Vesta, keep using quick attack! Don't stop until I tell you!" The zubat attempted to drain the health of his vulpix by using leech life but Vesta was able to successfully evade it before attacking it with another quick attack.
This exchange of quick attack and leech life continued back and forth for almost two or three minutes before Tristan commanded his vulpix once more, "Finish it off with ember!" Once again, small flames were shot toward the zubat and they made contact once more. This time, however, the zubat was rendered unconscious.
His opponent recalled the bat pokemon as he said, "Guess I should have expected that. Well, let's see how you fare against my luvdisc!" With that said, the older blond man sent out a pink pokemon in the shape of a heart...and his eyes almost lit up in pure joy. Luckily, he stopped himself from doing so just before calling out his own water pokemon – a small poliwag named Kai. Knowing that Kai only had one move that could potentially deal damage, Tristan quickly called out to his poliwag, "Attack with water gun until that luvdisc collapses!"
Judging by the luvdisc's appearance, Tristan wasn't too worried – the pink pokemon most likely was around the same level as his poliwag, so it wasn't likely that it would have more than one move that could actually hurt Kai. This was to be a stamina battle between the two water-type pokemon. The pink heart and tadpole pokemon attacked one another - using tackle and water gun, respectively - in an alternating fashion – with Tristan's poliwag being slightly slower, it was usually the luvdisc that would make contact first. Fortunately, his poliwag's defense seemed to be stronger than the luvdisc's physical strength. This realization made Tristan more confident that he could win this battle. As the luvdisc was nearing its last legs, Tristan's opponent recalled the heart-shaped pokemon and said, "If this battle goes on any longer, it'll collapse before I get back to town – you win."
At the older man's words, Tristan let out a small grin and laughed as he responded, "I guess so...if it's any consolation, though, I thought that my poliwag was a goner for a second."
In response to Tristan's words, the adventurer said, "You have another pokeball on your belt, though...couldn't you have used that?"
The younger blond couldn't help but chuckle at their words, "Nah. Other than vulpix and poliwag, the only other pokemon I have is a magikarp. If those two were put out of the battle, I would have had to forfeit."
With those words said, the older man laughed as he spoke back, "It's not like my luvdisc could compete with that vulpix of yours, anyway. It has no water-type moves yet." The older man paused for a minute before he continued, "In any case, I should be going soon. From what I've seen, your pokemon seem tough...keep doing what you're doing and nobody will be able to beat you."
@moderator - 815 words - i may have rushed the poliwag/luvdisc battle a bit
As the older trainer left after their battle, Tristan recalled Kai into his pokeball and continued to explore the abandoned ship. In spite of how decrepit it looked from the outside, the interior of the ship seemed a little less broken-down. Of course, this made sense...the exterior was subject to everything that happened in the environment while a good portion of the interior was somewhat well-protected.
During the 22-year-old's exploration of the shipwreck, he came across a flying rock that was shaped like a crescent moon. Not having seen the pokemon before, Tristan scanned it with his pokedex – learning that it was a lunatone, a rock and psychic pokemon from the Hoenn region.
Normally, Tristan would just knock the pokemon out and continue on his way. However, he recalled hearing people say that they wanted the moon pokemon. Even if he, himself, wasn't a fan of rock-type pokemon, there were bound to be people who were willing to trade for it. Upon making the decision to capture the lunatone, Tristan called out his poliwag to weaken it – in spite of the fact that it had just recently battled a luvdisc.
"Kai, start this off with water gun!" The tadpole-like pokemon quickly shot out a stream of water toward the moon-shaped pokemon at Tristan's words. In response to Tristan's attack, the lunatone retaliated using rock throw. Tristan's poliwag attempted to dodge but the poliwag – thanks to his type advantage – hardly took any damage when he failed to evade the rocks that were thrown his way. Because of this, Tristan figured that he didn't have too much to worry about as long as the lunatone didn't use any psychic attacks.
Unfortunately for him, after Kai's second water gun, the lunatone responded with confusion – which caused a considerably larger amount of damage to Tristan's poliwag than the previously used rock-type move. Frustrated, Tristan ordered his pokemon to attack one last time, "Use water gun one more time!"
After another stream of water made contact with the lunatone, Tristan tossed an empty pokeball in its direction. The pokeball rocked back and forth two or three times, as the lunatone struggled to break free, before it finally settled down. From her place behind him, Vesta retrieved the pokeball and brought it back to Tristan – who quickly put it away so that he could continue his exploration.

As Tristan continued to walk through the abandoned ship, he thought back to his newly acquired lunatone. He had no intention of using it himself, of course, but – he supposed that he could at least name the thing. He had called out the moon pokemon earlier so that it would know its new name in the unlikely event that it did end up seeing battle. After a minute of contemplation, Tristan exclaimed, "That's it, I'll call you Artemis!" Upon saying these words, the lunatone made a noise that signaled its agreement – if Tristan's assumption was correct, anyway. Shortly afterwards, Tristan recalled the newly named lunatone and quickly put away its pokeball.
While he was doing this, Tristan realized that Vesta was no longer by his side. In fact, he had nearly panicked...and that was when he heard her bark. The blond trainer directed his eyes in the direction that her barks seemed to be coming from and it looked like there were items beside her back paws.
Tristan quickly made his way over to her position and saw a level ball as well as a shiny stone on the ground. The blond immediately put the two items into his bag so that he and Vesta could continue exploring the shipwreck. As he stood up from putting away the items, however, he said to his starter, "This was a great find, Vesta!" At his words, the vulpix barked in joy.
