just because everything's changing Some amount of words for @kaminsod -- The guy wasn't wrong. Alastair smiled. "As I've been told, but that's alright. I think nicknames for Pokemon are supposed to be fun. And what's more fun than a Potato?" the puppy barked. There was just something about this guy that made Alastair... what was the word? It wasn't angry or sad. More curious? But a worried sort of curious? Not a bad curious, more like a worried about what's going on in their head sort of curious. He brushed the feeling off. Well, at least the Shuppet seemed to be a happy one.
He smiled again at the 'congrats'. It didn't sound sarcastic, but Alastair chose not to take it as such. It was a good hot dog... and Potato was a good friend. He caught the other staring at the hot dog stand, though. "You know, I hear there is a good hot dog stand on the other side of town," he said. "I could go grab you one if you want Wouldn't even take five minutes." Said the one with a flaming pony always itching for a ride somewhere. He liked the feeling of flying... and of people looking surprised when he could have just taken a cab but using a pony was free.
"Pierott?" he repeated. "I'll go look for it next time I'm in a book store. I'm sure its great! Everyone is their own worst critic after all." He made a mental note to look for it and read it, then ask for an autograph.
Doesn't mean its never been this way before PHARAOH LEAP.

"A real nice offer, thanks." There was no truth in Alastair's words. Finn felt that his own work wasn't 'surely good' just because he was his own worst critic. It was 'surely bad', as people had complained it was needlessly negative.
Which was just as well. Finn stared at the man, and considered the offer of a hot dog. Frankly, a ridiculous name: hot dog. Why call it a hot dog, anyway? If the Thing had a name other than hot dog, it would remain the delicacy that it was, and─
"You sure you want to go all that way for... some guy you just met?" Finn asked, incredulous. "That's... a real nice offer, thanks."
"Really, though," he continued, "I don't think you'd enjoy Pierrot. It's not exactly mainstream fiction."

just because everything's changing Some amount of words for @kaminsod -- Of course! Alastair smiled. There was nothing wrong with going to get another hot dog. "Yup! I mean, I did take the last hot dog from this place and you probably wanted it more than me." He hesitated. "Actually I could get us both there as long as you aren't scared of fire." Potato gave Alastair a look. Someone else riding on August meant no space for Potato to ride. Unless he was on Alastair's lap. That didn't work out the last few times, though. The dog had a habit of getting to excited and ramming his claws into Alastair's legs.
He shrugged at the next comment. "Well, I got to read it to find out!" he smiled. "It can't be as boring as those research papers I have to read all the time." He chuckled at his own joke. Well, some of the papers he read were by paper pushers in some lab. The boring professors. Alastair? Nah. He had more interesting research papers that went along the lines of 'and when I did this this ended up happening and here is the picture of the second degree burn I got on my abdomen in response'.

"Quote from post." This guy was positively too good for his own, well, good, and Finn mentally labelled him 'the Altruist'. Not many people'd offer to fetch him a hot dog, much less take him around town.
Finn supposed fetching one would be far more troublesome, and he'd run the risk of Altruist never coming back. In fact, he ran the risk of being kidnapped by the Altruist, who could secretly be the Devil.
Finn leaned back. As if anyone'd want to kidnap him. What were they going to get, chump change?
"I'm all right with fire," Finn said. "Get a ghost following you around, nothin' really scares you." That was a lie, but Shuppet happily ate his fears.
Finn decided not to comment further on the book. Once people had it on their mind to set themselves up for disappointment, no reasonable explanations could dissuade them.

just because everything's changing Some amount of words for @kaminsod -- Alastair smiled at the comment. "Great!" he got out a pokeball and released August. The Ponyta blinked and then stomped her hoof. She looked over at Alastair and then down at Potato. Then at the ghost. And finally at the stranger. She gave Alastair another look. "August can get us across town no problem!" He got up and patted the Ponyta's neck. She gave him another look that resembled a 'no'. But she couldn't argue. Her saddle was big enough for two... almost. August could carry three people on her back, maybe a smaller fourth, but then that was it.
Alastair got into the saddle and recalled Potato into the pokeball and smiled at the stranger. "Well? Boot up and get on! We'll be there in less than five minutes." It wasn't a lie... given he didn't get pulled over again.

"Mind demonstrating how to get on again?" There were a few things Finn had never experienced, and riding a flaming horse was one of them. That hardly seemed safe, and Finn was reminded that he didn't like flames all that much.
Something about an all-consuming force of nature bent on destruction was unsettling.
Such thoughts never survived long in the face of Shup, and before long Finn had no idea why he had at all felt uncertain about the ride.
"Well, if you're sure 'August' won't mind," he said. Finn did look a little helplessly at the saddle. "Uh, mind demonstrating how to get on again?"
