Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

Barely a week off the boat and already Fabrizia was doing field work. Which, even with the grant money she had received, its not like she had enough to hire someone to do it for her. Its also not like she trusted someone else with her very livelihood, either. They would probably mess up what she needed, so it was better to do it herself. This is why she found herself out in some canyon with nothing but her pokemon. Wild pokemon were a rarity in Orre still, but rumors had been recent that Charmander had been spotted. At least, when someone had said 'pokemon with a flaming tail' she assumed it was Charmander. Either way, she would have very much liked to observe them herself.
It was proving more difficult than expected, however. While Fabrizia was a fit and trim woman and wasn't opposed to hard field work, the craggy outcroppings and loose rocks were a little above her pay grade. Even though the crumbling rocks made her anxious and her fingers were being stained with the dirt, she still pushed forward. At least she could rely on Chance. The Abra was reliable and even a little mothering... for something that slept eighteen hours a day. As soon as she had gotten to a more dangerous area, he had slipped out of his pokeball and floated listlessly by her side ever since. She knew he was keeping an eye out for trouble and it was comforting to know that he could Teleport them back to town if something happened.
Still, even with the chill of the winter air the sun was beating down and Fabrizia was tired. It was only through reluctance that she leaned against a rock wall to rest and assess where she was. She had passed by quite a few Trainers, who were probably excited by the news of rare pokemon, but they had mostly thinned out and she believed only the most dedicated would be seen from here on out. It was odd that for the moment she was alone.

A hearty sigh escaped Fabrizia as she thought of how much longer she would be out here. This type of place didn't seem like the friendliest area to be in. Really, any anxiety she was feeling was a mix of eagerness and nerves from finally being let out on her own. She was officially recognized now, even if she hadn't put down any solid thesis and theories. It was hard to imagine that the dream she had had since she was a child was coming true. She felt like she needed to push herself harder to make it happen.
"...Ah." She glanced down after shifting her foot made her knock against something. It was white and pink and covered in muck, but after leaning down and unearthing the partially buried object she was surprised to find an Ice Heal. It looked worn from age and weather, but should have still been good. It was silly to find such a thing out here in a place like this, but she still opened up her travel rucksack and dropped it in the pocket with her shiny new potions. It made her feel less lonesome to be out in nature like this to find something man made.
"We've dallied enough. We should get going." Fondly, almost, Fabrizia gave a little pat on Chance's arm. The Abra shifted lightly and peeped softly in return, which earned him a rare and quick smile from his Trainer. Even if she was cold, the blue haired woman at least had a soft spot for her pokemon. That was all the signal given before she stepped away from the rock wall and started to walk again, searching for something. Anything.

It was a bit of a surprise when Fabrizia stumbled across another person. A lady with a parasol, who didn't look much younger than herself. She must have gotten excited about the rumors of pokemon and came out looking like a lot of other people had. It was only a shock because of the delicate aura the woman gave off. However, when this lady noticed her, she could see it was an act. There was nothing but flint and fire in those gray eyes.
"I think you know what I'm after." Even her voice sounded sweet, but with a teasing edge to it. She reached for the pokeball on her hip. "I, Samantha, challenge you to a battle!" She grinned and sent out a Mudkip. Fabrizia wasn't the most familiar with this pokemon, but she knew it to be a rare one that was used in Hoenn as one of the starting trio. It irked her, but she knew she couldn't refuse the battle. Even though Chance was already out and hovering protectively at her side, Fabrizia instead slipped the second pokemon she owned from her pocket and tossed it out. A Feebas materialized before her.
"Fine. I accept. You're probably trying to weed out competition for those Charmander, right? Fool girl. I'm a scientist, not a fluff headed Trainer like you." Fabrizia didn't even finch when the girl frowned and gave her a nasty scowl. So she had found out her plan. This Samantha wanted to weaken her pokemon so she would have to go home. "Since you challenged me, I get first move. Speckle," The fish Pokemon had to make a little effort, but managed to use its fins to sit up. Samantha sent out a Mudkip, who chirped happily upon being released. "Scald." The Mudkip was taken by surprise as boiling water slammed into it, knocking it off its feet. Samantha gave a startled huff. Fabrizia was pleased to see from the inflamed coloration that the Mudkip was burned. Her pokemon were weak, one couldn't even attack, but she could at least stall out until the Mudkip was unable to battle now.
"You....! Peeper! Use Mud Slap!" Even if it was wounded, Fabrizia would give the blue pokemon credit that it did a remarkable job in pretending otherwise. After giving a shake it bounced into action. Speckle wasn't a fast pokemon and wasn't in a position to dodge anything where it was outside of water. When the Mudkip spat up a glob of grit filled brown mucus and lobbed it at the fish, it hit dead on. Speckle let out a startled noise and shot out another Scald before Fabrizia could say anything to the contrary. The Scald managed to hit again, but only because Trainer and Pokemon hadn't expected a commandless attack. It sort of upset Fabrizia when the partially blinded Speckle started to make distressed noises. She didn't really like to battle her pokemon like this.
This went on for a few turns. The Mudkip was getting more sluggish and weak with each passing moment, not able to attack at full potential because of the burn even when using a Tackle over a Mud Slap. Speckle was not able to dodge and her vision was clouded by filth now, but she still had managed to hit the Mudkip with a Scald a few times more before she started to fire aimlessly at the dry rock around them. Sighing, Fabrizia held up her hand. "Switch in!" She called out, using her pokeball to draw Speckle out of battle. "Chance, your turn." Chance cooed and floated onto the battle field in Speckle's place. The Mudkip was weak and panting, so Fabrizia knew this would be over soon.
The Mudkip did a good job, it really did, and went on for longer than Fabrizia expected while slogging out attacks. Still, Chance knew no moves to deal damage. "Teleport!" Instead, Fabrizia was doing a stall out. Chance was nimble and had the power to chance locations instantaneously on its side. It didn't take more than two Teleports to the opposite sides of the battle field and the Mudkip running it down for it to finally collapse on the ground, unable to battle. "I win." Fabrizia crossed her arms. "Now go home and take care of your pokemon. There will be no Charmander for you today."

It looked like her battle had attracted an audience. When Samantha stomped off in anger, Fabrizia found her shirt being tugged on by a much smaller boy. He looked sweet and so young she could hardly believe he made it out this far on his own. She reasoned that he must have been with a group and maybe wandered off when he heard their battle. She nodded down to him, making him flinch away under her judging stare.
"I, um.... that was really cool!" He started out. "You, um... my name is Dustin. Can we battle too?" He eagerly took a pokeball out of his pocket and released the pokemon inside. It was a Spinarark, which would spell trouble for her, but he seemed so genuinely enthusiastic that she couldn't say no. Plus, it would mean a little more experience for her pokemon. While she liked her pokemon, she would be the first to admit that they were a bit... weak. Speckle was probably still under the weather and upset from the last battle, so it would take a lot of creativity to it she wanted to win this one. It wouldn't be as easy as just burn and stall like with the Mudkip. She would need a little more forethought.
"Alright. Chance, its your time." The Abra moved out in front of her as Fabrizia took her place. The boy gently encouraged the Spinarark onto the battlefield. "Chance, see that collection of rocks over there? Teleport to them." Chance squeaked loudly and did as he was told. The loose rocks were not massive, but they were all fallen and loose and about the size of a person's fist. He hovered over them and waited.
"O-oh! Um! Spider, use... um... use Poison Sting!" The Spinarark lifted its rump up and showed of the frightening face, signaling it was ready, then hopped a little closer and shot out a flurry of needle thin poison stinger at Chance. Chance did his best to evade, but was hit. At least he didn't get poisoned, from what Fabrizia could see. That would make this harder that it should have been.
"Now! Teleport again, over top of the Spinarark! Bring the rocks with you!" Fabrizia heard the boy gasp lightly as Chance did what she asked. One moment, he was over the rocks, the next him and the rocks were over the Pokemon. There seemed to be a millisecond before gravity kicked in, and the Spinarark tried to scurry away, but it was too late. A shower of hard rocks showered down on it. It cried out in pain each time one of them did, and Fabrizia was pleased with her makeshift Rock Slide.
"No! No! I give up! I'm sorry!." The boy ran forward and picked up his pokemon. The Spinarark wasn't badly wounded, just a little beat up. It probably could have even still battled longer. He had big tears in his eyes and sniffled loudly before wiping his nose on his sleeve. "That was scary! I don't want to fight anymore! She could have gotten squished!."
Fabrizia stepped forward and patted him on the back lightly. "That's the price of a Trainer battle." She tried. "They're hard on our pokemon. You could have beaten me easily, you know. Your pokemon has type advantage and mine was already weakened from a previous battle. I suggest if you want to keep 'Spider' safe, you should go home and study them." The boy nodded and wiped his eyes, still clearly upset. Maybe he would be a good Trainer some day after all, as he ran off in the direction that town was in and she sighed. Well, this was getting interesting at least.

Fabrizia had no sooner seen Dustin disappear on the horizon when she heard it- a small, soft 'Chaaar' from down in the canyon. So, all this hard work had paid off and she was close. The blue haired woman returned Chance to his pokeball for now, since she knew he was tired and the more bodies their were, the more chance there was for her to be discovered. She wanted to catch one, sure, but she was also here to study. Watching something when they didn't' know they were being watched was the only way to get an accurate reading.
It took a little searching to find a way down, and Fabrizia almost had to make a perfect loop to find a nice path that could hold her weight. It wasn't much more hiking and she came to a partially hidden cavern. The opening was too small for her to fit through, but she could occasionally see a flicker of flame from inside and hear more Charmander noise. It took a little work, but she found a nice spot hidden behind a rock that she could observe without being seen. It only took a few moments after that for her to pull out her camera and notebook.
It seemed to be a small family of Charmander, with two parental Charizard keeping a close eye over the babies. She had been surprised when she saw one of the massive lumbering dragons. She didn't know that Charizard had such parental instincts, and quickly started to take as many notes as she could. She reasoned that from the influx of them, this must have been some type of breeding ground. There were probably caverns with Charizard pairs and their young all over the canyon in caverns similar to this. She would have to test this theory later.
Fabrizia had filled up three pages of detailed notes and snapped many more pictures than she could count when opportunity arrived, but in an unexpected way. A small rainstorm picked up, which urged the fire types deeper into their cavern and away from the scientist's view. She was disappointed to say the least, but to her surprise one of the two Charizard came out of the cavern and lumbered in her direction slowly. It didn't act as if it had seen her so she didn't move. It seemed to shake for a moment, like jelly, before it changed color and shifted its girth into a smaller form. Fabrizia made sure to capture all that she could in photos. It was still strange to see a Ditto of all things rolling around the canyon. She knew she had to have it.
Slowly pulling a Pokeball from her bag, Fabrizia reared up over the rock and took aim. She threw the pokeball, which ended up startling the Ditto. It cried out in alarm to the others, which Fabrizia cursed, but a moment later as sucked into the ball. The researcher knew that she wasn't the best Trainer or most adept at this type of thing, but she hoped the ball would stay true and she would catch the pokemon. Maybe then she could get one of the younglings in the cavern.
