- Parents died in a car crash at age six. He had been forced out of their house and into an orphanage, kicking and screaming. It seemed that there were no known relatives to pick him up, thus he spent most of his childhood with other children. During the first year or so, he was a quiet child, the one who kept to the sides rather than socialize with the other kids. It took some coaxing, but eventually he started responding to them, mourning period over it seemed, so resumed a pseudo-normal life.
[break][break]
- It was never really the same though, he'd developed a mean streak among the other children, quite known as the bully on the playground. It wasn't unusual that he was given a time out for his shenanigans, or other similar punishment and a factor that kept their caretakers from recommending him to foster parents. Eventually he became too old for the orphanage to keep, sixteen and still not adopted. So he made the decision to leave on his own. In other words, left without much warning, to the probable worry of his caretakers.
[break][break]
- Which is not to say that he learned nothing during his time. Pokemon were rampant, the orphanage hands often brought them pokemon to play with, something about preventing previous mistakes, isolation of the two species was bad. Or something like that. He was a rough boy, and more than once a pokemon would bite him because he was too impatient with them, eventually it would end up with him and the pokemon fighting, one of them crying by the end of it. Eventually he learned a little, just enough not to make already cautious pokemon become irritable with him, maybe even like him a little.
[break][break]
- He made it out on the streets, learning to be a thief and being good at it as opportunities came and went. Sometimes he'd do odd jobs for different people, whatever he could to scrape some money together for a meal. Eventually he had enough money to live a bit more securely, though there was always uncertainty, he lived for it, craving the adrenaline, that rush danger brought. Intoxicating as it was, there were definite times he was caught, let off only because he was still considered a juvenile back then.
[break][break]
- He tried to steal from a bar once, it didn't go too well. A late night theft, the bar still filled with drunk people, he thought the staff would be busy enough to let him pass by unnoticed until he could get what he could and left. The staff, apparently a mere two men, were much more alert than he had anticipated, and he faced a nasty beat up from them, refusing to let him go even after that. He was nineteen at the time, an it wasn't quite the worst he had experienced. Though the man's words bit harder than his punches, shame for what he had done a new experience to the boy.
[break][break]
- Eventually the did have to let him go, he spent a grand total of two nights in a private room before the older of the two decided he didn't want to have him around anymore. A few days later, he returned to them, acting smooth and asked if they needed help at the bar. Well, that raised some eyebrows, and they interviewed him curiously.
[break][break]
- No, he had never prepared a drink in his life. No, he didn't have any previous experience in 'human relations'. Upon the approval of the older man, they started training him to be a bar keep, although he spent most of his first nights as a waiter, and cleaning dishes in the kitchen. Although he could never stop himself from seeking that thrill, the bar was perhaps the closest thing that he had to home and, more often than not, came back to it. His apartment turned into a secondary home instead, preferring to crash in the bar where there was more people and alcohol.
