Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

"Diego, why the hell did you drag me here?" He was out of breath. He was sweating.
They were meant to be at home in Phenac. They were meant clear in the desert, on some rented hover bike with a bag of provisions and a small cooler full of water bottles. The desert of Orre was a literal hell, with large gaps spanning between locations. Well, that was a majority of Orre. From the large mountain in the center, and towards the west, was a beautiful forest and river ecosystem, leading back to Gateon Port and the abandoned Cipher HQ.
Agate Village and the old Krane Lab called this area home. The people in the videos called it a miracle of a mirage made real, and others began to treat it as a god's territory. Had Eustace chose to come here first, he'd be enjoying a well-deserved respite after meeting that woman from earlier. He could worry about her name, but all of his anger seeped from his teeth, crawling down his shoulder and into his fingers that reached for his Totodile.
The little baby croc was picked up with both hands, squirming to turn around and glare at his master. He was talking in muffled speech and low growls, but Eustace sighed and set him back down. They weren't even close to the old lab or Agate Village. There was one other location that sat directly due north of Gateon Port. In addition to video evidence, some old newspapers that Eustace had used to read as a kid told stories about another laboratory of sorts.
It was not of Pokemon, nor geographical research. It was told to be that of a mechanic's and engineer's heaven. Kaminko was his name, and the tools used by that hero were made in his workshop. The building itself had seen better days during his life there, as it was already abandoned and run down. Even today, before Eustace's eyes, the skies only accentuated the air of calm. Wooden boards were fallen, the statue of the red behemoth was crumbling.
Maybe it looked different to someone else, but all Eustace saw was a problem. Diego had began to run around the statue, prompting the dyed hair man to sit down and take a deep breath. "Diego, there's nothing here. We should be going east. Honestly, I can't understand why you led me on a goose chase- I can't even believe you dodged all the times I tried to recall you!"
A small shout, to which the Totodile simply cackled and climbed upon the behemoth. He was oddly energetic today... Maybe it was that girl, or maybe it was just the change in scenery. Not all Totodile were like this- not all Pokemon were eager to run about in a setting they felt in tune with. That being said, his parents were diverse. Feraligatr lived in the water, and Salamence took to the mountains.
So you're more like your father now...
Diego the Totodile is out.

So you're more like your father now...
"I swear, I will find out-" There were daggers in his voice, cut in half by the sound of something emerging from the pine trees and bushes nearby. Diego immediately shot a glare in the direction, and jumped off the statue, running to the uninvited guest. Eustace rolled his eyes and summoned a heavy yawn from his mouth, waving his hand towards the Totodile.
"Good, go play. I'm gonna look around for a bit." Standing up, and with his hands in fists against his back, Eustace marched to the decrepit building.
Right as his master began to peek through the broken windows on the far side of the building, Deigo and his playmate had now met. The little Totodile was smirking a leer as he scratch the stomach of a small human-like Pokemon. He didn't know what it was, nor did he care what it was doing. All that mattered to Diego was the fact he felt the desire to fight anything that made a move. It's depressing really, when one remembers that this little blue reptilian had hatched less than a week ago.
The trip from Gateon Port to this location had brought just a few hours, and they completed the most recent day. It's even more depressing when one remembers the group his parents had fought alongside.
His claws felt like talons as they left a nasty mark, that almost faded into the skin of his playmate. He cackled and hopped up, but the Meditite seemed unfazed by this act. He stepped back once, then twice, lunging back onto the branch of the nearest tree to sit and take a deep breath. The pain was no more, though his thoughts were in disarray. Why had this little Totodile struck so eagerly? The Meditite had done nothing but probably look for food in this down-trodden palace.
Deigo didn't care. Eustace wouldn't take a second glance at what his pal did next. Another leer and a terrifying leap to smack the close-eyed face of the humanoid. Catch him off guard and strike when the chance is right? Eustace might call it his own style, but with a shrug to his shoulders. No, his style was more attuned to a double battle. Teamwork; trust; adaptability. Renate and Valda would be proud to see their son assist in carving a path through battle.
He was knocked out of the tree, but never broke stance. Another deep breath and his horns and fists began to glow with a faint red light. Deigo had no thoughts. From his perch, he jumped down and gave the little creature another smack.
And that was it. His stance was broken and he was laying on the ground with his stomach heaving. Diego shut his mouth and walked around the Meditite, gently poking at his face. There was no response. He was breathing still, but Deigo had already left back to Eustace.
There was a small frown on his face as he squatted down to greet his Totodile at some form of eye-level. There was an odd grin formed on his jaw, followed by a hop and a cackle. "What? Playtime over already?"
Diego the Totodile is ready for more.

"What? Playtime over already?"
Not quite. The sound of something else from the bush seemed a little louder than the last. The building wasn't going anywhere, and Eustace had already felt his feet carrying him back to the statue. The sound came from the right side of the rock's carved face, but appeared again to the left. There was nothing but a cloud of dust, and both pairs of eyes were wide. With hands inching to his jacket pockets, Eustace let out a chuckle. Diego was sporting quite the wide grin, looking here and there until another dust cloud came dead ahead on the path leading out.
"See this Diego? This is the kind of playtime you should have." The Totodile nodded, taking a deep breath and then sniffing the air. There was a faint buzzing coming from behind, and Eustace merely turned his head as Diego spun around and shot out a stream of water. The figure vanished before impact, but both Eustace and Diego caught a glimpse of green. The fact it was playing hide-and-seek cast frowns on both faces, to which both the man and his pet looked around.
"Come on now. We can't play if we don't know what you are." And the air fell silent, with just the sound of the dyed-haired man taking a breath to sit down. There was a slight buzzing coming from above, which slowly descended before the duo. Eustace cast a crooked smile and leaned forward, watching as the figure bore itself.
With the head of a dragon, and the body of a mantis, both Diego and Eustace felt the blood boiling in their veins. Before either of them could react, the Scyther slashed the air in the Totodile's direction, sending a shockwave right before his little clawed feet. He laughed and stood up, moving away and back towards the building. A memory began to surface, one that sat on the edge of recent and long ago.
Eustace was under the employment of a woman named Antoinette. She never gave him a chance to take breaks, and so he was stationed out in the field for weeks, living in nearby cities or towns. All his reports were either by cellphone or email. The last mission he took was on a mountain range covered in pink flowers and fir trees. The fauna was vast and diverse, with some Pokemon sharing spaces with natural enemies. He was ordered to fight and capture at least one of each species.
The battle before Eustace's eyes played out a lot like this one. Diego's father was paired against an insect that moved at incredible speeds, using the terrain to his advantage. After minutes of watching its movements, a deep breath was taken and the monster of a crocodile cast a glare and struck the air to his left side.
Diego's opponent felt a slight stinging on her forehead. The Scyther hissed and covered up the wound, vanishing with another cloud of dust in her wake. Not even half a second later did she reappear behind him and slice the air again, striking Diego's backside and causing him to bounce forward onto his head. Diego's father would've just shrugged it off and smack his opponent with his tail.
It hurt quite a bit, but with a growl and falling back to his feet, the little one rushed forward, firing a quick shot of water from within and hitting the stomach of the Scyther. With his brows raising upwards, Eustace felt a little excited at how scary Diego was beginning to look. He felt proud, too. If your father was here, he'd probably beat me up for not changing his name or realizing he was male in the first place. Valda? That was his mother's name...
Still, the deliberate confusion only added more power to his attacks. Every swipe of his tail could break rocks in half. Every lash of his claw cut down trees, and every bite of his jaws punched holes into steel. If he were here, this Scyther wouldn't have a chance. She was apparent in her techniques, or maybe just somewhat. She had perched atop the head of the behemoth and covered her chest with her blades, taking deep breaths. Diego was too quick; in just a few jumps, he caught her closing eyes with a leer and swiped her foot. She hissed and slapped his sides with the blunt parts of her forearms. The little crocodile fell down, but he wouldn't stay.
He jumped back up and yelled, his eyes turning red with rage.
Eustace's face morphed to normal, an eye wide in question, but his heart skipping a beat. The battle was over as Diego slammed his being into the stomach of the Scyther, and Eustace responded by removing a Pokeball from his bag and tossing it onto the unconscious body of the mantis.
"Your father would hate me for this, but... Last time he fought a Scyther, he made it flee. Medana always wanted to see and train one, so here's hoping."

"Your father would hate me for this, but... Last time he fought a Scyther, he made it flee. Medana always wanted to see and train one, so here's hoping."
With that, the will of the mantis was put to the test. No blade that could cut wind would break the object. No speed of sound would be able to distort the space inside. If the Scyther willed it, she would break free. The first movement was made, and Eustace sat down in front of the Pokeball, watching it. Diego wandered off to the building, the corner of his eyes catching a glimpse of something unusual.
His master was going back in time with every second; back to the caves of a mining town called Katsu. The island he hated to remember was called Anrui, and this town was the only place that he and his crew felt at home. It was a stark contrast to that of Phenac. The only water came from reservoirs underground and all meat and fish were brought to the tables by way of traveling merchants. There were fields of wheat and corn, and vegetables growing in the soil tasted a thousand times better than that of the ones served in Gateon.
The entire place was like a little nomad's camp. One day you could take a rest, and the next you'd think that everyone would leave. No, it wasn't just like that. If anything, it was a merchant's paradise, too.
Eustace had only a Croconaw and Bagon to his name. From the day he arrived, he fought nothing that made his blood tingle with excitement. There were no trainers that could stomach a glare from his eyes. From Hyo's Port to the Forest of Fie, any monster that caught his eye fled. He was beginning to hate his missions, hate the fact he took up the chance to join something worthwhile. The abandoned mines of Katsu changed that.
Still holding the essence of miners working for hours on end, the place was alive with natural lighting and Pokemon activity. There was nothing but rock snakes, bats, and duck-billed beings in addition to hazards. In the depths, just where the light blew up and died down further in, was an injured Kangaskhan and child. The culprit was unknown, but the damage about the mother's body was enough to anger Eustace. He was acting without realizing- he tended to the fallen duo and helped them back to his home.
The Pokeball moved a second time.
For days, he would tend to both of them, spouting swears and promising to find whatever left them like that. You should've been dead, the way I saw you. About a week later, Eustace led them to a park near the base of the mountain, and said goodbye. The child Kangaskhan broke into tears, clinging to Eustace's leg. All he did was groan and cave right then and there, casting a Pokeball to its mother.
Sympathy? Pity? A desire to protect? Eustace never understood until that paper found his eyes again. They were both totally healthy, and now they were under the care of his former boss. They were dead. They had been dead.
He already forgot their names.
The Pokeball stopped moving, and the capture was a success. With a blink of his eyes, he sighed and whistled into the cold air, reaching for and latching her to his belt. Diego had returned with a sphere in his claws. Looking down, his master snatched it away and tossed it in the air.
"A repeat ball? Kinda useless unless either of you want a twin..." With a small shake of his head, he stashed that in his bag and turned back to the pathway entrance. The air was slowly growing colder, and Eustace felt a chill down his spine. "We really need to get going, Diego..."
Diego the Totodile is ready for more.

"We really need to get going, Diego..."
With his name hanging on the wind, there was something else. The space around them was empty, devoid any sound except that gentle hiss of a breeze. Footsteps broke that lovely sound.
At his side was a Sableye, and he himself was nobody important. This young man had sported a look of being lost; his eyes squinting as he held a hand over them, as if blinded in the sunlight that wasn't showing. It was well past noon, but the boy was treating the hour as morning. If anything, it was eventide.
"Jeez... Huh, who's that?" Eustace rolled his eyes and began moving closer, with Diego following him. The boy never trembled as Eustace passed him by, even going so far as to turn and clear his throat. "Um, excuse me! Do you know-"
"Nope." Then there was a blast of water, unruly and unkempt much like the monster that fired it off. Eustace turned on his hell, his smile showing and then quickly turning to a frown. "Diego!" The Sableye had crossed his arms, but he collided into the leg of his master. Both fell over, but neither Eustace or the Sableye helped him up. His hands were covering his face and he was growling, angered that Diego was still showing off his lack of self-control.
Dragons in his blood? Perhaps, but even those only acted if needed. Diego had a demon in him.
"Kid, I'm sorry. Once Diego gets like this, I can't do shit. Recalling won't work so you best be prepared for a battle."
He wasn't crying. His stomach was in pain, but the kid stood up and dusted off his shorts. His mouth was a thin line and his eyes were narrowed. Turning to Eustace, he slapped his hands together and pressed. "I ain't a kid, dude. And I'm fine with that; I was gonna ask you anyway after seeing if you had the time."
Eustace chuckled, digging his hands into his jacket pockets. With a shake of his head, he looked upon Diego and the Sableye, the latter's gem-like eyes glowing in the declining sunlight. The little gator fired off another Water Gun in the process, hitting the forehead of the imp. "Honestly, it's time for me to get my ass out of here. If you had a watch, you'd know it's close to nightfall."
Clouds were appearing overhead, and the air continued to grow cold. Eustace shrugged and let out an uncovered yawn, his mouth staying unhinged as he realized something. The young man never gave a verbal command to his partner. He walked around the general area, standing a few paces away from his opponent. Both Diego and the Sableye swiped at each other, the latter's eyes casting an unusual glimmer. The Totodile fell through the body of the Sableye and ran for cover behind the statue.
"You a soldier? You trust in your partner to act on his own?" The young man nodded, tilting his head to Eustace. "I'm a boxer. Sableye there is my sparring partner. I trust him because I can't really hurt him, and neither could your Totodile."
A grunt was made in response and that was it. It wasn't surprising that Diego fled when the attack failed to make contact. The stress over him being newborn was continuing to grow, but so was the capacity to learn. The only battle that required Eustace to use verbal commands was probably the last one he had before coming here. It was him against his boss in a sparring match, and he lost.
Diego had come out of hiding, spotting the Sableye climbing along the back of the behemoth. Both of them lunged, and the little imp had grabbed Diego's arm. His only response was to fire off a Water Gun. Diego landed back on the ground, and Sableye slammed into the statue. Eustace winced as he kept his eyes on his Totodile's opponent, and broke his gaze as the young man recalled him. "That was a little too fast... Kinda disappointed."
The boxer left with a silent goodbye, and Eustace shrugged. From his small bag, he removed a spray bottle, and held it up to his eyes. Swishing the contents around, he put it back and sat down before Diego. "Diego... You're a total idiot. You know why I brought you home with me? It's so can I can train you in Phenac, but so far you've been nothing but a damn nuisance..."
Diego the Totodile is still ready for more.
