After continuing on for some while, Potato had sniffed out another opponent. Although Alastair was bent on having September fight originally, the newly evolved Charmeleon didn't seem up to the task. Apparently she had worn herself out over the past few days with her erratic behavior and needed to recover. This left Potato, who seemed more than willing to fight. The small dog waited until Alastair was ready, and then received his very simple orders.
"All I want you to do is fight it, but if it looks too tough, get out of there," Alastair said, having dismounted August. He was sitting on a rock, legs crossed, notebook in his lap and pencil ready. "For this battle, fight without my orders, alright?"
Potato nodded. He was sure he could do that! He spun on his paws and raise his muzzle to the sky and let out a fierce Howl, pumping himself up for the battle. Potato let out another Howl shortly after, his fur spiking up and his eyes getting a wild flare. The Shuckle, who was peacefully sleeping a few paces away, gave the dog a look after being woken up. Quickly, it withdrew into its shell, peering out from the darkness. Potato wasted no time and rushed the shell with all his might before skidding to a stop and, using his front paws, splashed dirt all inside the Shuckle's shell. The Sand Attack caught the turtle off guard and it gave a surprised cry and came part way out of its shell to try and wipe the dirt from its eyes. Potato rushed it and sunk his teeth into the thin neck.
The Shuckle was quick to shake the dog off and then wrap Potato in the turtle's long, skinny arms. The dog gave a loud whine and struggled in the grip. Potato gave another Howl, as if comforting himself in this predicament, and then bit the Shuckle's arms hard. The turtle didn't let go and continued to squeeze the puppy. Potato continued to gnaw on the arm until he was able to break past the rough flesh and into the softer, gooier bits underneath. The open wound inflicted enough pain that the turtle released Potato, and got another Sand Attack to the face.
The turtle narrowed its eyes and began to clap, but Potato was already gone by the time the Shuckle was done with the failed Encore. The turtle looked around. Where did the dog go? The turtle would discover too late, after being tackled into a nearby rock. Potato stood as the decided victor, especially after the turtle retreated into his shell and didn't seem intent on coming out any time soon.
Potato trotted over to Alastair, who was furiously taking notes. The golden dog waited patiently. Eventually, Alastair closed the notebook and ruffled Potato's ears and showered him in praises. A job well done. Now, onto the next task!
