SUMMARY
Finn is a two-faced person, though not by his own design. He's incredibly negative, assumes the worst of everything, and finds his life abhorrently meaningless.
He confronts life's absurdities with a smile only when Shuppet devours his negative emotions and allows him to be carefree to an extent: his cares and worries are, after all, simply devoured and he's unable to express them.
Finn can communicate perfectly with people similar to him, and can have an understanding of those with a crippling anxiety about purpose. He's a deep thinker.
However, those who are cheerful can also interact with Finn, as Shuppet can keep his negativity in check and they can have fun adventures together. Sometimes, Finn isn't even sure if he's having fun because Shuppet ate his negativity, or if he genuinely enjoys himself.
FRIENDS
Friendship with Finn is a tough nut. Because of how negative he is, he tends to be a bit hard to get along with. Even when his negativity is eaten, Finn remains a person who dislikes talking about himself and opening up to others, so it's a constant struggle to get him to open up.
What friends he does make, Finn values, though he does expect them to abandon him sooner or later. Fear of abandonment means Finn'll be very anxious about being true friends, and it takes a lot of patience and understanding to convince him you can be trusted.
ENEMIES
Enemies aren't too hard to have with Finn. He's not positive, so he's bound to rub some people the wrong way. He doesn't tend to actively go out to find some enemies, but I've no doubt he'll make some at some point. Maybe. I don't think anyone's ever asked me for a rivalry/enemy plot, haha!
LOVERS
Finn isn't into sex, but he does yearn, in his own way, for a deep, emotional bond with someone. Because he doesn't believe it's ever possible, it's an eternal struggle.

I'm racking my brain trying to come up with a good hook for a first thread, and I think both characters share an interest in the unknown. Alastair wants to uncover the unknowns about the world and Pokémon, and Finn likes the mental masturbation of thinking about thinking and then finding it futile. They could have a discourse on it. Maybe Alastair could give a speech about his research to "inspire people", but Finn might just as well give a talk about the futility of it all and we could use "Hey, I just listened to your talk and I think..." as a way to start talking?
