Rakutsu is seen as a realist and blunt. While he does have a no nonsense attitude, he is shown to have fun and cracks a joke at times when he sees fit, but make sure not to get annoying with it. He makes sure to be on good behavior and is always seen as friendly and helpful to his friends and peers. Rakutsu doesn't care much for appearance or social statues, but is bothered by things like pimples and blackheads on his face. Rakutsu does his best to control his angry so he isn't as easy to anger. While he isn't the biggest talk, he is a good listener and has a good memory. A trait in which many women like in a guy as well as being very intelligent and cunning.

He does this so others won't take him as a another trainer who just sees pokemon as a "master and slave" relationship and more of a best friend type of thing. He is rather quick when it comes to befriending pokemon. This is seen when he was a child and had no problem making friends with the ranch pokemon.
