"So that's where you were..." Lucas commented. He'd done a little bit of his own searching. Signs of his brother's rage were gone from the town aside from what had already happened.
"When I left I..." He hesitated to answer. Warning signs were popping in his mind. Telling the truth would reveal a lot about the activities he'd gotten himself into doing. Lying would require a bit of skill. Hmm. What did he want his brother to know?
"I woke up somewhere I didn't recognize. So I left without telling anyone where I was going. If I stayed then I might have gone a little crazy. I wasn't right in the mind because I barely remembered anything at all. About a week later I remembered my own name. Then it slowly started clicking together piece by piece. I remembered dad. Then why we left. So I tried to go all the way back home. About half way there I was walking on a busy road when I thought I saw you. But it wasn't you." Lucas stopped looking his brother in the eyes, cause his own were getting a little wet. He pulled off his glasses to clean them, revealing his puffy eye lids. Gosh, he was really letting himself be emotional over their reunion. Lucas was beginning to realize that there was indeed a beating heart inside his own body.
"After that I just started going everywhere. I wasn't searching for you because well... I don't know why I wasn't. Losing my mind did something to me. I didn't really feel happy or sad. It was more like my head was a smeared canvas of colorful emotions that had just been dunked in paint thinner. So when I did get my picture back the colors weren't as bright or powerful. There was a lot of grey space. There are still things that I still don't remember, our parent's faces or our neighbors. But I do remember a couple weird things like food we used to eat or what television shows we liked." Lucas realized he was rambling and was going a bit too far along with lost memories.
"Eventually I got into working for people under the table. Deliveries and housekeeping, just odd jobs that didn't require any sort of paperwork of IDs. It brought me everywhere. I don't think that I've skipped any little town in the region. But I thought that I would end up seeing you sooner. Guess it takes eight years to find a needle in a haystack."
