A love of science and the human mind interests Rickard to the fullest. Having studied both in college, he has a rather vast knowledge on the topics, and on more than one occasion will find himself pointing out certain... personality flaws of others. He really is trying to be helpful about it when he does, even if it could sound rather rude or blunt. After all, people tend not to realize their own flaws, not even he realizes his own, so he does his best to try and help out others.[break][break]

Rickard's views can be seen in neutral terms. He does his best not to be against anything, wanting to see both sides of the coin. He doesn't believe in wholly evil, nor in wholly good, but a healthy middle ground, where some can be more corrupt than others, but where everyone has that same sinful light. While he's part of Cipher, he doesn't hate those who aren't a part of it. He does find himself agreeing with many things that Cipher does, but then not others. He also really enjoys researching and experimenting for Cipher's benefit.[break][break]

But despite everything, there's one thing for certain. He cares for his baby brother. The brother he was never able to meet, but has been wanting to since the boy was born. He hasn't stopped trying to track him down, and knows that he's somewhere in Orre. He's determined to find him, to meet him, to let him know everything. He wants to know how he's been, and be sure that he lived a good life even without his birth parents...

- Grew up in a rich family, who wanted only the best for him. From the moment he could walk and talk, he was tutored in subjects he would only excel at. He was a young prodigy, his parents were proud.[break][break]

- Parents didn't want a second child, but mother got pregnant when he was four. He noticed the changes in their attitude as they lacked any form of enthusiasm. He overheard conversations about wanting to be rid of the child and interfered to keep the child alive whenever he could. He at least would love his unborn sibling.[break][break]

- Brother would be born when Rickard was five. His parents left to the hospital and left him at home. However, when they returned, there wasn't a child with them. They told him that the baby had died during childbirth. He didn't believe this, as they lacked emotion. He later heard about an infant being found abandoned outside of Celdaon, and believed it was his brother, but had no proof that it was him to convince police.[break][break]

- He actually ran away when he was ten to search for his brother, but he was found and severely whipped as punishment. He didn't attempt it again, going back to the constant studying.[break][break]

- At the age of fifteen he got into college, majoring in science and psychology. However when he graduated he didn't return home. He took his own personal savings and paid for a hotel, and began to track down his brother. At first he had no evidence and traveled the regions searching with a larvitar he picked up during his college days, collecting Pokemon as he went and even competing in several regions - you know, for personal satisfaction.[break][break]

- Eventually he picked up on rumors about that child that had been found. Rumors that he was in the Orre region. So he traveled there immediately, determined to find his brother, and positive that it was him.[break][break]

- When he arrived at Orre, it was more violent than he had predicted. During a stop in Phenac, he got mugged. Mugged real bad, even. The person stole his Pokemon and even viciously stabbed him. He expected to die there if it hadn't been for someone showing up as he fell unconscious. It turned out the person who saved him had been a member of Cipher, and had even rescued his Pokemon. Rickard was grateful, and after a while wound up becoming an official member of the team, curious about the things they supported, and even finding he wanted to help them. Perhaps his scientist skills could help out with the whole shadow Pokemon thing.
