Lace lived with her family inside of the treehouses in Fortree City. Her family runs a cemetery on the outskirts of the city. As soon as Lace and her older brother were able to walk, her parents had them help out with the operations inside their family business. She was never allowed into the back of the funeral home itself when she was a child (children shouldn’t see dead bodies) but they requested her assistance in gravestone making and plot searching. She was primarily in charge of arranging the sites and planting flowers around the graves so that the area didn’t look as bleak as most graveyards. Lace used to sing to the gravestones at night and somehow managed to attract a Shuppet that never left their property. After many nights of trying to lore the Pokemon out of the corners with her song, Lace managed to befriend the Pokemon.

In her early school life, Lace had many friends. Her quirky and spacey characteristics were welcoming and endearing as a child, but as she grew older people started to get a bit uncomfortable about her antics. Once she graduated, Lace could count the amount of people who talked to her on a regular basis on one hand. She started an apprenticeship at the funeral home and learned quite a lot about the human anatomy and burial routines, but with a mind full of endless daydreams, Lace was unsatisfied.

She came to Orre with no direction besides being bored of her surroundings. Life was largely uneventful in Fortree and she was seeking something more adventurous and interesting. Her parents had their worries, but Lace was able to remind them of the fact that she was an adult (even if she did not act like one sometimes). She made promises to write them letters whenever she had the chance. Lace assumed they want to hear about her adventures, but in reality they just wanted to make sure she was still alive. Her travels brought her to Orre, bright-eyed and excited to start poking her head around the sand-ridden place.
