The day had started out great. His leg had mostly healed from the accident at at the boat. Now there was just a nasty looking scar that was still closing over, but he could walk normally without fear of opening the wound. That was why he was here. There had been some rumors of evolution stones and fossils deep within the bedrock of the canyon. Time had a way of hiding things where it was hard to reach them, and Alastair was bent on seeing if he could find something that was hidden in the rock face. He wasn't after the stones and fossils... no, he was looking for something a little more special. Mega stones. They had become a popular object of study recently and he was bent on being one of the first to discover the secret. A strong bond with a trainer was the key to mega evolution, everyone knew that, but bonds between Pokemon and trainers was Alastair's main point of study. He would be crazy not to take this offer!
Sadly, getting up this far on the canyon meant climbing equipment and an irrational optimism. Alastair had both of these things. He was suspended high above the canyon floor, jabbing away at the rock and brushing away the dust. One would think this was dangerous, but Alastair had gone mountain climbing all the time. He would be fine as long as the belt stayed buckled to the hook. For the safety of his Pokemon, he had them all in their pokeballs in his bag at the base of the canyon. Well, all but one. Baroque was out and staying aware. She was roosting on top of the bag, ready to take off with it at a moment's notice. At the moment, she was snoozing in the hot sun. Most Pokemon had went to hide in their burrows due to the sun.
Alastair jabbed away at another piece of rock. It crashed close to Baroque. She gave the rock a bored look. Please. As a steel type, she could handle pitiful rocks. She looked up at Alastair. He was pretty high up there, and he was probably burning up considering he was right in the sunlight. He had shed his jacket and left it with her long ago. He even left her a bowl full of water in the shade. Baroque closed her eyes again. Eventually the humann would get bored and they would go home.
