Everyone believes that Tristan Grimaldi was born and raised in Celadon City – but that couldn't be further from the truth. In actuality, the couple that raised him found him abandoned on the side of the road just west of the city in which they lived. As the pair couldn't have children of their own, the couple quickly took him in as if he were their own. Since nobody knew who he really was, the authorities let the couple keep him as their son. Considering the lack of documentation regarding his identity, they didn't have much of a choice. The day that the couple had found the boy would be regarded as his birthday to everyone that they knew – as he had been an infant when the event had occurred.

The family of three was quite happy for the most part...until the bullying started when he was only five years old. Not wanting the young boy to have to deal with the discrimination that was bound to occur, the young family packed up everything in their home and traveled to the Orre region in hopes of a fresh start...which was exactly what they received.

Nobody knew them here. Nobody knew that Tristan was a kid that they had brought in from the streets. It was a chance for them to live as a real family without having to deal with the judging stares of everyone around them – and, for that, they could only be grateful.

Of course, the move had some downsides. Tristan's parents had quit their jobs in order to leave the Kanto region for Orre. They passed it off as nothing, but Tristan knew that they were just trying to keep him from the truth. At the time, though, he didn't think it mattered. All he knew was that nobody in their new home would judge him for something that he didn't understand.

In all honesty, Tristan doesn't even believe that he would have lived as long as he has if he had been forced to stay in Kanto. Fortunately, he no longer has to think of that wretched region. Although it may have been fun to play with the pokemon that had come by their house on the edge of the city, the region as a whole held too many bad memories – including those of his birth father who left him for dead after his birth mother's accident...

Luckily, that's all in the past. At the age of twenty-two, Tristan has finally left his family's home in Phenac City along with his vulpix to explore the Unova region – using the hover bike purchased for him by his adoptive father, of course.
