Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

now this was an interesting match up - the fighting-type soon finding himself staring down his kicking equivalent. while picasso was tailored to be both defensive and offensive, the hitmonlee was bred to master the art of assaulting a foe. beth allowed the pokemon to take on this particular challenge, having caught the interested gleam that had entered those round eyes of his.
"good luck out there, pal."
with those words spoken, beth prepped herself mentally, attempting to figure out a strategy of some kind that would allow them to win this one. she failed to conjure up an idea in a timely manner, blinking her eyes owlishly as she observed as the fighting-types clashed. it reminded her of jasper's confrontation with him, but there was much more spirit invested into this occasion. limbs flew at one another, the pokemon lashing out viciously.
beth shouted, regaining some semblance of focus. "revenge!"
after a rolling kick had landed, the fighting-type responded with the counter. it proved effective, for the hitmonlee stumbled back unsteadily upon its graceful legs. beth couldn't help but admire her opponent's pokemon as it recovered and continued to fight, but - still - she couldn't help but favor the hitmontop now that it was undeniably hers.
"hithithithitmon!"
close combat quickly followed, with the hitmonlee managing to effectively dodge quite a few of the blows. there was a smug look in its narrowed gaze, and beth was soon forced to call for picasso to garner some sort of distance between himself and the other.
"he's tough," she said, brows furrowing. "i haven't fought another fighting-type outside of picasso before... now that i think about it."
scratching her chin absently, she called out for picasso to lunge forward and somehow break past the hitmonlee's defenses. thankfully, it would eventually crumble, and beth's fighter was winded because of it. the win wasn't an easy one - it was actually cutting it a bit close. if picasso hadn't managed a critical hit at the right time it would have lasted far longer than she would've liked. she just temporarily lost the use of jasper - so to lose another so soon would have been a bit worrying.
"picasso. cover the ekans, alright? she isn't boastin' much."
the fighting-type nodded, glancing at his partner with a slight frown. the snake pokemon hissed quietly, coiled now and busying itself with intimidating both the ice and water-type. successful in making them hesitate, the scaly beast soon hissed in satisfaction. hitmontop lunged forward afterward, his intentions clear as he moved to clash with the big-lipped ice-type.
"hit!"
"close combat!"
"ekans!"
"leer! and then bite that chinchou!"
the close combat proved effective, the hitmontop offered a precious few moments that allowed him to stop the jynx from wielding a potentially crippling powder snow. after the direct hits pummeled her form she still managed to grip onto the fighting-type, delivering a wet draining kiss that left him reeling.
"uh."
beth grimaced, pitying her pokemon for having to deal with those lips pressing against his face while draining him of precious energy both. the ekans was grappling with the chinchou, the mixed type struggling to avoid the slithering snake. she delivered a stinging bubble in hopes of warding it away, forcing the poison-type to take pause. soon, the ekans form wrapped around the tiny pokemon, eyes revealing its hostility after it recovered.
"hit!"
nearly sent sprawling from a ice punch that hurt terribly, picasso responded with a revenge that knocked the jynx out of the battle after the blow was successfully delivered. adrenaline kept him going, his eyes focusing upon the mixed type that the ekans had within its grasp. its owner shouted out orders, and the purple pokemon soon found itself faced with a confuse ray that caused its grip to tighten as it wobbled and swayed unsteadily.
huh?
a bit confused by this sudden change of behavior beth decided to command the snake to strike.
"use poison sting!"
the hitmontop was forced to duck suddenly, though a few stingers caught it. the young female's eyes widened, her bewilderment obvious as her foe grinned smugly. was the snake refusing her orders or...? once beth finally took notice to the ekan's eyes she quickly realized it was merely confused. its head turn before it spat out the attack again, this time hitting the water-type directly and at close range. its eyes would eventually clear, and the poison-type would be allowed to finish its assault with the hitmontop moving to assist.
the battle had been of laughable quality. beth had certainly struggled not to dissolve into mad giggles as she observed the two sluggish pokemon deal with one another. her gulpin, the first creature she had ever bothered to catch, handled the situation at her own pace. she heeded beth's advice, but she remained slow and steady as she moved, her brain far too small to concern herself over how the battle was executed. she would deliver, intent on being obedient to her respective trainer.
the psyduck was too busy contemplating the reason surrounding its existence and why its headache constantly persisted.
"psy..."
"gul..."
"psy..."
"gul..."
instead of being infuriated, beth was further endeared to the green lump as it made its way over to the water-type. the cocky young male demanded that the duck use scratch, which it did - in the most half-assed way possible. the poison-type's body wobbled in response, an irritated noise escaping her as she went still. suddenly, she responded with a tackle. this went back and forth, and there was so little movement involved. somehow, the poison-type dished out just enough damage to the psyduck to cause the pokemon's vacant expression to twist into a grimace.
"psy..."
oh - wait - nope, it was back.
"gul..."
they paused on occasion, both possessing contemplative expression upon their faces - though the gulpin's features were notoriously difficult to read - as they awaited their master and mistress's orders.
"keep it up - i guess," beth muttered, hands now stuffed into her pockets as she shrugged.
the boy was much more determined, shouting loudly for the psyduck to pull off something - anything - that would confirm their shared superiority. moments later, the water-type fell flat on its belly and stayed there.
the little turtle had been distracted when beth had approached. it had been plucking at a few flowers that sparsely populated the place, inhaling their fragrance with obvious relish. she was aware of the species, having witnessed how bulky and truly formidable a blastoise was. her eyes revealed her want, and, she soon reintroduced her gulpin into battle.
"try that new move of yours."
her pokedex had automatically updated, revealing that the poison-type had acquired a new skill. the gulpin, now settled upon the grass, obeyed her trainer with only a little delay. thankfully, the water-type was young, far too inexperienced to take advantage of its various senses. a bubble escaped her now gaping mouth, floating leisurely toward the squirtle before it popped within its vicinity. the now drowsy pokemon blinked lazily in their direction, realized the possible danger that came from contacting humans in the wilds, and attempted to ward the poison-type off with a tackle.
"gul..."
the poison-type appeared mostly un-bothered, launching herself a multitude of times - even after the squirtle had fallen asleep - at the shelled body.
"that's good - that's good. i think he's down," beth said.
once the pokemon had been allowed to distance itself, a pokeball was produced and hastily thrown at the young water-type.
the next fella to approach was chatty - his willingness to partake in her company for only a moment revealing his overall friendliness. beth was the one whom requested a battle in the first place, insisting that he showcase his talents as a trainer as the youth was in the midst of revealing his various interests.
"sure," he replied.
on a whim, beth decided to select her squirtle for this particular battle. it blinked somewhat owlishly at the start, but soon stood ready, competent enough to realize that it would be expected to fight. pleased by this show of discipline, the young woman called upon her gulpin next, intending for her to participate as well. the poison-type did fairly well, but it was obvious that the small water-type was struggling to comprehend how to handle a combative setting.
"whoa! boy, don't just run away from the eevee!"
"don't cling onto my leg! le-go!"
"arceus dammit, squirtle - "
the battle finished on a somewhat soured note, with beth more irritated than she'd like to admit by the panting and teary-eyed squirtle. gulpin had been left to chip away at most of the eevee's and hitmontop's health. she did excellently because she was capable of wielding a status-affiliated move, rendering the pair far too sleepy to respond to her own sluggish movements. squirtle had dedicated most of his time with tackling them while they were mostly down, his body still somewhat soft as he did little damage against their much more toughened bodies.
"must be a baby," her foe reasoned, scratching the back of his head once it was over. "go easy on him, yeah? he probably doesn't know any better, yet."
