Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

everything about today was mediocre at best.
it was very quiet, this particular location lacking any amount of noise that could easily disrupt ones train of thought. only after she took notice to this did she thank whomever was above or below for not allowing her to be birthed in such a place. beth couldn't find it within herself to appreciate the tranquility, a small frown now forming upon her features as the thought crossed her mind. the air was fresh as she inhaled deeply, the lack of light and air pollution leaving her somewhat anxious.
"hm."
she had been going through bouts of homesickness as of late. with each new location there was a memory that would resurface of home as she compared and internally visualized the gray landscape.
"whatcha think, jasper?"
the machop cast her an unimpressed look, her rounded features lacking in expression as she crossed her muscly arms. beth laughed quietly in response, shaking her head at the bipedal specimen before continuing her exploration of the village's outskirts. the weather was adequate, with the wind being a little too harsh for her liking. her short hair moved constantly, and she had to eventually cover her head with a cap so that it would no longer become an issue.
"lesse if there's anythin' valuable 'round here," she drawled.

a man approached, his figure mostly hunched over as the weight of a yellow pack was pressed against his back. he peered at her through a magnifying glass before opening his mouth to question her. the girl was quick to notice his thick accent, but couldn't really figure out its origin.
"seen any gleaming rocks 'round here, lass?"
stuffing her hands into her slack trousers, beth couldn't stop herself from snickering quietly to herself. she managed to barely disguise it as a cough before replying.
"nah, old timer."
"hm."
the man appeared to contemplate her response for a moment before speaking up again.
"well! since i don't see none 'round here either... how 'bout a battle, lass?"
the young woman's eyebrows immediately shot up before she proceeded to shrug.
"shit. why not?"
his brows furrowed for a moment before he distanced himself from the youth and ushered a swinub into battle. beth produced her pokedex in response to its appearance, fishing it out of her pocket so she could properly aim it toward the fuzzy beast.
"swinub, the pig pokemon. it roots for food by rubbing its snout against the ground. its favorite food is a mushroom that grows under dried grass. it occasionally roots out hot springs."
a pig pokemon?
putting away the electronic device she focused on the oncoming battle, gesturing with a tilt of her head for machop to step forward. jasper took her place, taking on a fighting stance as she prepped herself for phyical confrontation.
"tackle, swinub!"
once the man spoke the little beast charged forward - its pudgy form connecting with the fighting-type's belly. jasper found herself wincing slightly at the bit of pain that originated from a now somewhat tender spot.
"leer," beth said.
the gray pokemon's eyes gleamed with an ominous light as she cast the ice-type a truly withering look. their foe was visibly effected, shuddering and releasing an uncertain snort.
"give it a karate chop!"
the battle was brief. it appeared as though jasper was much stronger in comparison. the typing advantage also caused the confrontation to be disappointingly lackluster. once the attack connected the explorer's pokemon was felled.
"heh. good one, jasper," she praised.
the explorer returned his pokemon with a quiet grunt, adjusting his cap before he uttered a simple farewell and moved on - likely to either tend to his fallen companion or locate a few more rocks for himself.
"guess it's just us again," she said. "let's keep it goin'."

closer examination of their surroundings resulted in several finds. one was a curious looking item - flat and smooth and shiny as well. her hands handled it with care, a callous finger tip brushing against its surface.
"looks valuable," beth concluded. "let's pocket it and figure out what it is later."
once the find was situated within the confines of her pack another soon joined it. jasper had caught it first. the treasure had been half-buried within dusty soil, covered in a thin layer mud and foliage and nearly going undiscovered due to its exposure to the elements.
"i know what this one is," beth said, grinning.
she brushed it off, peering at the flame that appeared to be frozen within.
"one of those - ah - fire stones! ain't it cool looking?"
she girl waggled it before the machop's face, the pokemon merely responding with a quiet grunt before it was put away.
"we got one battle down and a couple o' items," she said. "that ain't too bad. it's only been an hour, after all."

they came across their first wild pokemon - and, surprisingly, despite it's rounded and lax appearance beth's features lit up at the sight of it. hurrying to retrieve her pokedex she listened to whatever the entry had to say before considering her options.
"gulpin, the stomach pokemon. this pokemon's stomach fluid can even digest scrap iron. in one gulp, it can swallow something that is as large as itself."
as the gulpin lazed about and moved very little from its original spot, the young woman bounced from one foot to the other.
"let's catch it" she decided.
jasper immediately stepped toward the patch of grass where the poison-type resided.
"give it a leer!"
entering it's field of vision, the fighting-type openly glared at the specimen. it remained idle, but it paused briefly, the leaf placed a top its head twitching somewhat.
"karate chop!"
to their surprise, the first attack didn't do as much damage as she would have desired. it still managed to just barely cling on, taking advantage of machop's closeness as it lunged forward and collided with the gray pokemon.
"machop!"
stumbling back, jasper corrected her once wobbly posturing and glared pointedly at the poison-type. it was weakened, thankfully.
"give it another!"
this managed to do it, with the pokemon shuddering under the below before falling limp. it appeared to visibly sag, no longer able to properly support itself as consciousness slipped away. beth produced a capsule, adjusting her cap a bit as a cocky expression now twisted at her features.
"you're mine, now."
the capsule was thrown toward the wild creature then, and both pokemon and trainer looked on silently.

"haha! yes!"
she hopped up and down excitedly, beyond pleased with the results lain out before her. the capsule had wiggled only several times before going still and releasing an electronic sigh of sorts. succeeding in capturing her first wild pokemon, beth moved to retrieve the stilled capsule while sporting a goofy grin.
"you're one of us, now," she said. "i'll name ya a little later. that's a promise."
securing the now filled pokeball onto her belt she looked to her current companion.
"alright! let's go that way next. yeah?"
pointing with her bandaged arm, jasper shifted her gaze toward the distant sight of a shimmering pool. they immediately made their way over, pace somewhat hurried due to the remnants of adrenaline that still lurked within their veins. the spot was populated by only one, the specimen's short figure kneeling as they relished the cool waters and drank greedily.
"wait! i know that one," she said, her voice slightly hushed now. "it's another fighting-type. like you, jasp."
"machop?"
the fighting-type peered at the distance figure of the wild creature, seemingly interested.
"let's go for it," she said.
they were already in the process of quickly approaching the pool when the fighting-type raised both its head and itself to face the human and pokemon pair. its stance immediately grew offensive, a frown fixed upon its features.
"hitmontop, the handstand pokemon," the pokedex chimed. "its technique of kicking while spinning is a remarkable mix of both offense and defense. hitmontop travel faster spinning than they do walking."
both wild and owned pokemon lunged for one another moments later, with jasper executing a karate chop and the hitmontop meeting her with a close combat. the flurry of movement that followed left beth somewhat startled by the sight of the two as they railed against one another. her hands curled into fists, and she called out to jasper after a moment of hesitance.
"give it a leer!"
jasper paused, retreating a few steps to cast her foe a glare. the female creature was breathing heavily now, frowning as she attempted to further gauge such a worthy foe. the hitmontop grimaced, shivering as their gazes soon clashed and an ominous feeling washed over it. the muscly pokemon was quick to take advantage of such a pause, maneuvering herself so that she could pull off a low kick.
"ha! yes!"
pumping a fist, beth observed as the wild creature fell harshly, its balance temporarily loss. hitmontop was then forced to deal with a karate chop that landed upon its downed form. it lashed out viciously with a revenge afterward, the machop rendered stunned as she stumbled backward and nursed a now heavily bruised muzzle. they glared at each other, then, returning to their previously held stances. hitmontop then fell on a knee, panting heavily as he attempted to recover as quickly as possible.
"another karate chop! keep it down!"
the fighting-type obeyed, hurrying to deliver the blow while her foe was still winded. it collapsed moments later, a quiet grumble escaping it as the the wild fighting-type lay upon the grass. beth waited for a moment, wanting to make sure it was truly down before tossing an empty capsule toward the fighting creature.
"c'mon. c'mon. c'moooon..."
