Long ago, the region of Orre was a place of untold danger, where two groups: Cipher and Snagem, wished to rule the region through the power of shadow pokemon. Pokemon who's hearts had been closed and were used as machines to fight rather than as partners to the trainers who caught them. These groups were defeated by courageous young trainers who wished to free pokemon from these fates and restore peace back to Orre. That peace has lasted many years and perhaps has done more bad than good for the region of Orre. With so much peach, how will the region react to the rumors of Cipher returning once again? The peace has been a blessing indeed, but with peace always springs a new enemy that wishese to destroy it once again. Which side shall you choose in this endless struggle between peace and chaos?

He nursed his hand. It had been torn up when he met his new Pokemon, the Carvanha he lovingly named Monday. August didn't take too kindly to the fish, mostly because fire and water do not get along. Likewise, Alastair had put the Pokemon back in the Pokemon, but was sure he would train him while he was out. After all, August couldn't be expected to do all the work. Speaking of the pony, Alastair had taken her to a shop to get her outfitted for a saddle and bridle. They had taken her measurements and had gotten to work, promising to give the items enough room for change if she ever grew taller or larger.
That meant waiting around for them to finish to go see if the items would fit on August. It was one thing to ride bareback, but if it was for a long trip, Alastair needed a saddle and bridle to make it easier on both himself and her. Still.... He came to a stop by the river and sighed, watching August get a drink. Well... this town was nice enough.

August lifted her head and glanced past Alastair, letting out a pleasant neigh. Alastair looked in the direction. An old man with a cane was approaching them, stopping a few feet away from Alastair. The young man was pretty sure this was public property, had he wandered onto private grounds? The old man smiled.
"Excuse me, young man, would you be interested in a battle?" Alastair blinked. Oh? A battle? He looked at August, the pony taking a step forward and letting the old man pet her muzzle. Alastair shrugged.
"Alright, sir. I wouldn't mind. August needs to stretch her legs anyway. August!" The pony lifted her head to attention before taking a few steps back with Alastair, and then stomping her diamond-hard hooves into the cement of the path, sparks flying. The old man smiled.
"Oh, this will be fun!" He tossed out his pokeball, the Voltorb rolling onto the battlefield. "Don't go easy on me, son!"
Alastair wanted to say sure, but the fact was, he never went easy on anyone. That was the point of battling... still, he felt bad for battling an elderly person. That, and August looked stronger than the Voltorb.
"Charge!" The old man said, the Voltorb holding still while charging its energy. August looked back at Alastair for an order and the young man nodded.
"Ember!" August spat out hot flames, making the Voltorb roll back a bit in pain.
"Tackle!" the Pokemon shot forward at a fast roll, hitting August's legs. She stumbled, but caught herself before she fell. She shook out her mane of fire and stomped her hooves again.
"Tackle!" Alastair said, the Ponyta charging forward and slamming her neck into the Voltorb's body, sending it flying onto the grass. It caught itself before contacting the water of the river and rolled back towards its master.
The old man chewed on his lip for a minute before saying, "Tackle!" again.
"Out of the way!" Alastair called, his Ponyta gracefully trotting to the side, the Voltorb looking upset with her attitude.
"Tackle again!" "Ember!"
August was hit with the tackle, but with the proximity she had to the Voltorb, she let out hot embers, the Voltorb rolling back before fainting. The old man recalled his Pokemon and sighed. Alastair felt his heart quench, but then, the old man gave a laugh and a smile.
"Now that's what I call fun! Thank you, young man. Battling is the only real joy I have in my retirement," he said. He patted Alastair on the shoulder before walking towards the town, probably to go to the Pokemon Center. August trotted up to Alastair after and nibbled his hair a bit. Alastair patted her jaw and neck, telling her she did a good job. The pony sorted. The praise was accepted.

Someone tugged at his jacket. Alastair looked behind him. Oh?
"Excuse me, young man," the old woman said, her Plusle staring up at him with a smile. "Would you battle me too?" Alastair thought briefly and nodded. Why not?
"Sure thing, ma'am." They parted and August stayed in between them, looking at the smaller pokemon. How bad could it-
"Quick Attack!" the woman said, the Plusle slamming into August's check faster than she expected. In response, August spat out hot embers without an order, the Plusle giving a shout and backing away.
"Nasty Plot!" the old woman said, the Plusle getting a devious look on its face. August glanced back at Alastair and he nodded. She scratched the ground with her hoof and then charged, slamming her body into the smaller Pokemon. The Plusle shouted in pain and backed away.
"Entertainment!"
The Plusle started to dance, but August looked back to Alastair, as if to ask 'is this thing crazy'? In short, it was a miss. The Plusle, angry that its dance went ignored, used Quick Attack again, hitting August hard on the side. The Ponyta responded with another Tackle, the Plusle falling back at the hard hit and falling unconscious.
The old woman gave a smile and thanked Alastair for his time, taking her leave. Alastair patted August's side, the Pokemon panting hard. They seemed to be popular today.

The woman wandered away and Alastair gave a sigh. Well... he was hoping to just walk for a bit by the river but, then again, this was a retirement town. While Alastair thought, someone else approached him. He smiled at them and knew what was going to be asked. The old man looked down at his dog, the Pokemon looking up at August. The Ponyta was tired, but she still had some fight in her. At some point, Alastair knew he would have to heal her. She needed to rest as well. Soon, though, and he would switch out to Monday. He patted August's side and moved away, the old man taking a few steps back.
"Howl!" The old man said, Alastair narrowing his eyes. Nope. Not on his watch. The dog let out a powerful sounding Howl, and Alastair sighed.
"Growl!" August let out a fierce growl. "Now Tackle!" August darted forward and slammed into the dog, the mutt giving a yelp of surprise and pain. The dog bared their fangs and August stomped her hooves to make a point.
"Tackle!" The dog charged and hit August hard on her side, sending her skidding along the path.
"Ember!" she spat out embers, and the Pokemon kept at it. It was about three more tackles and embers later did August stumble in her stride and almost fall. Yet, as a professional on four legs with hooves, she caught herself.
The two Pokemon were panting, equally matched. The old man narrowed his eyes. "Howl!" he said. Alastair narrowed his eyes in response. This old man was planning something. It was surprising he hadn't used an electric type move. Yet. They had to fix that before the dog did something.
"Ember!" The Ponyta let out a vicious blast of fire, the dog whining and shivering from a burn. Soon, the dog would go down. That was a critical hit. The old man pointed at the pony. Here it comes.
"Tackle!"
No? The dog tackled August, making the pony fall onto her side this time. She got out and spit out embers at the dog. It was too close for comfort. The mutt backed up, shivering from the pain of the burn.
"Thunder Wave!" the old man ordered.
"Tackle before it has a chance!" Alastair said, August getting up and charging fast, slamming into the dog. The Pokemon skidded back, the burn combined with the harsh attack had it drop to its belly. The old man recalled the Pokemon. August was panting, and went towards the river for a drink of water. She would have to be healed soon. That, and their luck would run out. Alastair could feel it.
The old man thanked Alastair for his time and left. With a sigh, Alastair patted August's side, the pony neighing at him softly. She was tired. And so was he. But what did Alastair have to complain about?

August was returned to her pokeball for some rest. To keep himself company, Alastair let Monday out shortly after. The pokeball helped to for water around the fish, but eventually Monday found his way into the river and happily swam alongside Alastair and the path. Honestly, the fish was terrifying. It looked like someone had taken a basket ball, painted it, glued some fins on, and stuck some Halloween vampire teeth on it... except more deadly, fast in water, and so cool. Ah-hem.
Alastair perked up when he saw a bug cross their path, and Monday shivered. Oh? "Go at it, buddy, start off with a Bite," Alastair said. The fish jumped out of the water and the pokeball's center button glowed, grabbing some of the water from the river with it as the fish charged. Pokeballs were neat things, Alastair thought. He wondered if it would do this water trick out in the desert, or if Monday would shrivel up. It was a horrible thought... Alastair made note to buy bottles of water and a fish bowl.
The piranha charged and bit the bug hard, shaking it around before letting it go. The purple bug flew back a few feet and then charged with a Tackle. It hit Monday back into the river and the water from the pokeball faded, leaving the fish in the river. Monday snapped his jaws and waited for the bug to draw near, attempting to use Play Nice, but Monday dived into the water and then rounded back after the miss, biting the bug once more. Monday went back into the water, part of his fin sticking up. The bug charged, Tackling Monday deeper into the depths of the river, but the piranha bit the bug again and threw it to the bank. The bug was still. Monday was victorious. He snapped his jaw to declare to the world he was greater than anyone and... August wasn't around to see his victory. For shame. Oh well! Monday looked at Alastair with large eyes.
"Good job," Alastair said. Monday snapped his jaws again and splashed some water around before swimming like normal. Yes, he was the best, wasn't he?
